of Smoke & Life.

I exhaled slowly, feeling the air go out of my lungs and mouth, and then watching as the last wisp of them disappeared completely. The smoke represented my dreams - going up and disappearing into the thin air. Except, my dreams popped and disappeared like those bubbles that kids loved blowing using water mixed with some form of liquid detergent.

3 years. That's how long I've been friends with the stick. And 3 years since my life became a mess too. Ever since she left. Ever since I started on this job....

Thinking back, I remembered how I used to ask of others to steer clear from smoking. I was even on first-name terms with the harmful effects of smoking, I would tell the friends who smoked, how their lungs was gonna become black and lined with tar, how their respiratory systems gonna be adversely affected, blablablah. And looking at what I cradle between my index and middle finger now, I could only laugh at myself. Life could be such a joke sometimes.

Café Insadong - Bulgogi Beef Injeolmi Toast

The most obvious perk of a two-hour lunch break is the luxury of time, which allows for trying out new cafés and revisiting the old ones.

So today, since I had to go over to Cake Spade to buy a slice of cake for my girlfriend's birthday, I decided to head over to Café Insadong to try their Bulgogi Beef Injeolmi Toast!

The atmosphere in the café is that of a simple and relaxing one, with korean music playing softly in the background, many of them coincidentally being my favorite pieces. Amazingly, all the wall decorations that you see, are for sale! So if you step in, and happen to see any piece(s) you like, you can become the new owner! I'll really love this when I have my own place in the future~

On to the food then!

Although I had entered with the intention of trying both the Bulgogi Beef Injeolmi Toast and Patbingsu Ice, but then I was informed by the friendly cashier that Bulgogi Beef Injeolmi Toast had the option of making it a set, so there goes my stomach space for the Patbingsu~ :/

the warm honey lemon tea which the girl said was for "while waiting for the toast".
mega love this, it came just at the right time, soothing for my mildly-irritated throat.
but after the first few sips, I began to find it mildly too sweet...
even more so when it cooled down, and when I drank it again after finishing the toast.
maybe that's why its for "drink it while it's hot"

and of course, now for the main course!

okay, this is major YUMS! I honestly can't stop raving about this!
normally I'll have bulgogi on hotplate, and there will always be this layer of oil. ALWAYS.
and it annoys me to no end, because my stomach is kind of sensitive, so it cannot take the oily-ness. so I'll always have to sacrifice a little bit of rice (sorry, rice farmers. I appreciate all your efforts, sorry for the wastage :/ ) for patting the meat dry before eating it.

not only do I love the meat, I also love the fact that they use rice cake as sort of a "glue" to keep both pieces of toast together! like this...

can you see the white gooey part in between? that's the rice cake!
it really completed the entire item, and made the entire experience whole for me!
of course, the kimchi was good as well, I don't mind having more of that! *greedy*

and of course, the set came with dessert of ice cream - either vanilla or chocolate.
since I was never a vanilla person, the choice was obvious!

the ice cream was sweet, but I personally found it a tat too sweet after awhile...
but maybe that's just me, because I don't really like stuff that is too sweet.

On the overall, this is a café that I would step into again on a lazy afternoon, just for the cup of warm honey lemon tea. Gonna head back there to try their patbingsu too! ^^

food for the soul

Just as we recognize that choosing fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, seeds and nuts is preferable to choosing hamburgers, fried foods, and donuts, if we want a healthy heart, we need to recognize healthy and unhealthy foods for the soul's nourishment. - Dr. Cynthia Thaik
